Whilst working for Boots Dentalcare I attended a day lecture on Cosmetic Dentistry and was amazed to learn what Dentistry could do to improve a person’s smile. So I signed up for a year’s course on Cosmetic Dentistry. At the course I learned that the smile will not last if the Occlusion is not correct, so I signed up for a Course on Occlusion. Studying Occlusion I learned that the patient’s occlusion would not be stable if the Jaw Joints weren’t healthy – so (you guessed it) – I signed up for a course on Joint function. Patients with Jaw Joint Dysfunction (TMJ, TMD) really do suffer, as it is a very debilitating condition. Many of them have missing teeth and poor occlusions. Although they can be treated, the treatment is difficult and time consuming. It occurred to me that it would be a far better approach to “catch” the patient whilst they were still young – and guide them toward an ideal occlusion and jaw function and so by-pass all the pit falls that can beset a developing occlusion.
The new buzz word in Dentistry is “Airway” as the development of the jaws and teeth can affect the “Airway” – the passage of air to our lungs. We all need to breathe. Did you know that Correct Breathing is also essential for the correct Growth and Development of the Jaws and Face – and therefore the straightness of the teeth?
I heard about Myobrace toward the end of 2013, at a lecture given by Damien O’Brien, International Ambassador for Myobrace. I learned that Myobrace is in over 100 countries around the world, and over 3 million children have been treated with it. At this lecture I realized that it addressed all the issues mentioned above in growing children and so I went to Australia in 2014, to the Inventor of the Myobrace System, Dr Chris Farrell, and attended one of his courses on Myofunctional Orthodontics. We have been using Myobrace now for about 2 years and are seeing some amazing results. Straight teeth without braces – really is possible. Oh, and by the way, your child ends up with the face your genes determined for your child. Did you know that the Environment can affect the way your child grows and develops, and therefore what they look like? This is the new field of Epigenetics. The Myobrace System enables us to address some of the key different aspects of Facial Growth and Development. This is why treatment needs to start earlier – so that the Growth of your child can be put “back on track”.

Sarah loves everything about the new Early Orthodontic Centre.
The holistic approach of the Myobrace system fits perfectly with her approach to life: to treat the cause and not just the symptoms. It is a pleasure seeing the results in the children’s smiles and of course getting a chance to chat to all the children and their families.
